How is the Panel selected?

    Everyone registering their interest in being involved in the Panel will be entered into a random stratification process of choosing a Panel of up to 50 people reflecting the diversity of our South Australian community. This will be undertaken by the independent organisation democracyCo.

    How will the People's Panel work?

    The People's Panel is a participative process facilitated by democracyCo. During the Panel, the members will work together to understand the service levels and costs and deliberate on the best outcome for all South Australians. 

    Members will hear from experts and stakeholders, working in small groups with other everyday South Australians to come to agreement on the best way forward for pricing and energy services for SA Power Networks 2025-2030 Regulatory Proposal. 

    Why should I get involved? Do I need to have any prior knowledge?

    You don't need any prior knowledge to participate in the SA Power Networks People's Panel. 

    All we need from you is your time and a curiosity to listen to the information presented and share your opinions with us and your fellow panel members and to work in the best interests of all South Australians.

    Participating in the Panel will allow you to:

    • Make a difference by shaping the levels of service provided by SA Power Networks and the cost of providing these services 
    • Build lasting friendships and networks
    • Receive an honorarium to assist in covering out of pocket costs
    • Experience an interactive, informative and fun engagement process.

    Who is eligible to participate?

    The invitation to participate on the People's Panel was sent out to 20,000 independently selected customers to be a representative of the South Australian community. 

    Any South Australian resident who received this invitation directly may register their interest. 

    This invitation is not transferrable. 

    Who is not eligible to participate?

    To avoid conflicts of interest, the following groups are not eligible to participate on the Panel:  

    • Employees of SA Power Networks and Enerven, including SA Power Networks Board members and members of their households/immediate families 

    • Employees of relevant regulatory bodies/decision making bodies eg. Australian Energy Regulator, Essential Services Commission of South Australia, the Office of the Technical RegulatorAER, ESCOSA, OTR 

    • Members of SA Power Networks' other consultative groups, including the Community Advisory Board, Reference Groups or Working Groups. 

    • Members of Parliament. 

    Why is SA Power Networks holding the Panel?

    SA Power Networks is the sole electricity distributor in South Australia, delivering electricity and critical infrastructure to around 900,000 customers. 

    The People's Panel provides customers an opportunity to be the voice of the community and shape future levels of energy services and cost to customers. 

    50 everyday South Australians will be selected to be a part of the Panel allowing us to present our recommendations to the Australian Energy Regulator as a part of our 2025-2030 Regulatory proposal. 

    Do I get reimbursed for participating on the Panel?

    Yes, if you are selected and take part in all the sessions, you will be eligible to receive an honorarium of $720 for metropolitan participants and $960 for regional participants. For Panel participants that live more than 100 kms away, SA Power Networks will pay for travel and accommodation expenses. 

    Meals and refreshments will also be provided during the sessions.

    When does the registration for the Panel close?

    Registrations need to be received by 5:00 pm Tuesday, 1 November 2022.
