As part of our Regulatory Proposal 'Reset' Engagement for 2025-2030, we are holding a series of 'Focussed Conversations' workshops with our stakeholders and customers to engage deeply on priority topics and better understand their current needs and future priorities for electricity.

The Vegetation Management Focussed Conversation follows from our Broad and Diverse Engagement Workshops across the state, helping us build and reinforce the importance of continuing our collaborative approach to vegetation management.

Please note: Our expenditure, revenue and price forecasts will continue to be refined as we go through the stages of our consumer engagement process and also incorporate the latest economic conditions. Therefore, the forecasts presented in the Focussed Conversations may vary from those that will be taken to our People's Panel in February 2023.

Workshop 2 Recommendation Development

Following our August workshop, we held our second workshop online 24 October 2022. We then developed recommendations from the priorities identified in the survey conducted during September. Here you can:

We asked for feedback on what we should put forward to the People's Panel by Monday 31 October. The final recommendation paper was provided. We thank those for their ongoing interest and participation.

Workshop 1 Focussed Conversation

The first workshop on this topic was held on Wednesday, 24 August and was attended by 20 stakeholders representing various sectors and agencies including Green Adelaide, Local Government, Treenet, Office of the Technical Regulator, SA Water, Resilient South and Professor Bob Hill from the Adelaide University.

Members of our Community Advisory Board (CAB) also attended the meeting.

What did we engage on?

During the workshop, discussions were held on the topics of:

  • Reinforcing the importance of continuing our collaborative approach to vegetation management
  • Customer and community safety and managing the risks of bushfires
  • Cost sharing opportunities and the benefits and consideration of undergrounding powerlines
  • Continuing the work in species selection programs and paving the way for bolder and long term thinking to share data and making more evidence based decisions.

What did we learn?

The session saw discussions around the responsibility of SA Power Networks to ensure providing a safe, reliable and compliant electricity network for its customers and communities with a focus on local councils to have urban heat maps and canopy cover target priorities. The Right Tree, Right Place strategy was also deemed critical for trees and powerlines existing in harmony in the long run.

Please read the Vegetation Management Workshop Summary notes here. A online survey was open until 6 September to inform priorities for the recommendation paper for the People's Panel. Thank you to those who participated.

Workshop 1 documents

Participants attending the workshop were provided with a pre-read participant pack, providing them with a background to the SA Power Networks' Reset 2025-30 and the Vegetation Management Focussed conversation.

Our workshop report summarising our key findings and takeaways from this session will be available once all the workshops on this topic have concluded.
