Welcome

Hello and welcome a live example of how we might use 'Talking Power' for future online engagement activities.

I really enjoyed the recent the 'Presenting & Facilitating' workshop with Peter Karounos. It was great to know I'm not the only one who gets nervous and anxious when being in front of a crowd.

Personally, I got a lot out of the two days, and am taking away some new handy tips and have a few new facilitation tricks up my sleeve. I'm also going out this weekend to by a gigantic chub-a-chub, so I am ready for my next holiday adventure, thanks for the suggestion Jess.

On a more serious note, we spoke a bit about how some of these new tactics might relate too, or be applied to our increasing online communication and growing use of MS Teams. I spoke briefly about some of the digital engagement tools we already have access to as part of Talking Power.

What can Talking Power do?

There are a number of online tools we can use for online engagement and to facilitate online dialogue, feedback and collaboration.

Talking Power can also have 'public pages' and also 'private/protected' pages for groups or selected registered users.

I have added a quick 1 page overview of the tools available - feel free to download and take a look.

I have also added the notes we took about "tips for online engagement' - there are some good ideas there.

But even better that reading more, I have added three of the different online tools for us to use/test ourselves and see first hand how easy it is.

Give it a go !

  • Use the 'Guestbook' tool (below) and share 1 key take-away tip, tool or technique that resonated with you
  • Take the 'quick poll' (below) and let us know what you thought of the training (and see the group results as more people share their votes).
  • Ask me a question about Talking Power and I will get back to you, simply add your question and email address to the tool below.

Reach out if you have any questions, or would like to discuss online engagement further.

Loved the traffic cop, will definitely be using that one while presenting and facilitating! Also loved the story telling as a way of connecting.

Make sure to incorporate a 2-axis model into any presentation.

The focus on facilitation to increase engagement, and incorporating this into my everyday meetings/discussions!

Thanks Dan, great notes for online presenting/facilitating. I look forward to putting my presentation on paper and re-mapping it to include islands, different interactivity and resources e.g. "stand up/hand up if you have experienced some thing similar?"

There was some great learning over the two days and apart from the power of story telling I also get a lot from things like "Traffic cop", hand movements, islands and breathing techniques... I took a lot of notes but was thinking a 1-2 page cheat sheet would have been great.

Outstanding facilitation by Peter who delivered easy to follow instruction across the entire workshop.
Key take-away for me was learning the importance of story telling, and how to invite others to share their stories and create powerful conversations by encouraging participation.

Use story telling to connect to people and your topic - it can have more impact that a slide deck with lots of words
